Serving Those Whom Other Organizations Turn Away

Final Exit Network is a new organization dedicated to serving people who are suffering intolerably from an incurable condition. Network volunteers offer you counseling, support, and even guidance with self-deliverance at a time and place of your choosing - always your choosing. The Network will never encourage you to hasten your death!

This letter was addressed to Bob Brush, Final Exit Network Board Member

Dear Bob:

Thank you for forming Final Exit Network. It is a relief to know that there are individuals right here in San Diego who are able and willing to help anyone who needs to end an intolerable life. That is, people who will not be constrained by the politics of their organization.

I am grateful that you will actively be researching methods for self-deliverance.

I have joined Final Exit after reading about it in Derek Humphry's newsletter.

I wanted you to know how very much I appreciate your efforts and that of all the Final Exit volunteers.

It is also reassuring to know you have a key member in Hawaii, where I will be moving next year.

Final Exit Network will serve those whom other organizations turn away. The Network's "Exit Guides" will provide these services. The Network plans to train Exit Guides over the weekend of November 12, 13 and 14 in St. Louis. Once they are trained, Exit Guides will be available to provide competent, confidential counseling and support to members who are suffering from an incurable condition.

A group of 9 "First Responders" is in place already serving Network members. To be connected to a First Responder in your region, send email to info@finalexitnetwork.org or call 1-800-524-EXIT (3948).

Final Exit Network is looking for volunteers to serve as Exit Guides. Ideal candidates will have formal training and experience in end-of-life care. A medical or caregiver background, empathy for others and a commitment to death-with-dignity are also desirable. Volunteers must be able to travel - sometimes for several days.

To be considered for this critical role, call 1-800-524- EXIT (3948) or send email to info@finalexitnetwork.org. Qualified candidates will be trained in phases. Those who aren't trained in November will be trained at a later date.

Please show your support for Final Exit Network by joining and donating today. The Network can't achieve its vital goals without resources. The Network is a volunteer organization. There are no plans to invest your dues or donations in costly staff or offices.

Final Exit Network will not charge for its services, but these services require resources - for training, public education, travel to provide services and other crucial activities. One individual's membership fee will not cover these costs. Final Exit Network needs your support today, so that we may serve members who are suffering intolerably from an incurable condition.

While we acknowledge the importance of Oregon's landmark death-with-dignity law, it remains under assault by the US Justice Department. Its future is uncertain, and it only serves the citizens of one state. We endorse the valuable work of other organizations in the movement to change the laws and serve a small segment of those in need. But the harsh facts of political life for the movement's advocacy organizations inevitably demand compromises that dictate that far too many will slip through the cracks. Final Exit Network will serve those whom other organizations turn away.

The organization accepts members with cancer, ALS (Lou Gehrig's disease), Parkinson's disease, Multiple Sclerosis, Muscular Dystrophy, Alzheimer's disease, congestive heart failure, emphysema, and other incurable conditions.
